mountain-top removal coal miningWhen we turn our lights on, chances are that this electricity was generated at least in part by burning coal mined from Appalachia. What does our connection to "coal country" and its people mean for us as religious communities? Over a dozen Northern Virginia congregations have come together to host premier screenings of Coal Country: a dramatic look at modern coal mining. Through this film, we'll get to know working miners along with activists who are battling coal companies in Appalachia. Representatives from the Greater Washington Interfaith Power & Light "GWIPL"and the Wise Energy for Virginia coalition will make the connection between local coal mining and responding as people of faith to the threat of climate change.
