This month's guest speaker will be Mr. John Baker, the Chief Strategist with Austin Energy, and the topic will be an update on the progress of the Pecan Street Project (PSP) and its projected impact on the lives of Austinites. Austin Energy representatives have participated in Crude Awakening meetings in the past, and the result has always been clear, authoritative information that addresses key concerns and curiosities about the energy posture of the city and its famously progressive municipally-owned utility. Crude Awakening is a grass roots Austin group committed to studying the reality and impact caused by Peak Oil and the dependence on fossil fuels. Our approach is apolitical, and seeks to identify constructive ways to promote public awareness and identification of various mitigation strategies, from individual lifestyle choices to policy initiatives. We are also assessing the viability of undertaking a sponsored film series to help draw interested people to better understand the array of issues--environmenta l, social, political--associate d with Peak Oil and its effects. Don't wait for oil to go back to $150 a barrel; come join us to help explore creative solutions.

This month's Crude Awakening Austin will co-locate with the Austin Solar Energy Entrepreneurs Network (SEEN) Event Program: Non-Photovoltaic Panel Business (Opportunities for those of us who don't have their own PV Panel Plant.) The SEEN event starts at 6pm and runs to 8:30pm, this will be a great opportunity to familiarize and network with Green Energy enthusiasts and entrepreneurs. After 8:30pm we will conduct Crude Awakening business. On the agenda will be nominations for next years Officers (president, vice president, secretary and treasurer), check By-laws in the files sections for descriptions of each office. Also on the Agenda will be a discussion of a change to the meeting format. The proposed change is from monthly meetings at a physical venue to primarily an online community with a special event quarterly. IF you plan to participate in the SEEN event, please register for that event as well: http://cleantxforum. wufoo.com/forms/sola r-energy-entrepreneu rs-network-7/

This month's Crude Awakening Austin will consist of an open discussion concerning how the media reports on energy issues. Is coverage of controversial community high-impact issues like nuclear, coal, solar, wind, and other emerging energy power sources balanced, sufficiently in-depth to inform the public, and accurate? Come share your own thoughts as we select a handful of recent local media reports and consider what the media's responsibility is with regard to energy reportage. What they have to say affects all of us. After the Media discouse, we will move on discussions of changes to meeting venue, the topics for some upcoming meetings, next year's officers and applying for the Knight News Challenge grant.

We are setting up the September meeting as a trip to Fredricksburg to attend the Renewable Energy Roundup on September 25, 26 and 27. We have reserved a table-top exhibit space at the Roundup being held on the Market Square in Fredricksburg, Texas. Members of the Steering Committee are getting posters, handouts, reference materials and business cards (with website and email address for more info) for getting the word out about the issues of peak oil. We will also have a raffle of Peak Oil videos. The CAA exhibit will be located in Space #131, and we plan to be "open" during the official exhibits hours: noon -6 pm on Friday 9am - 6 pm on Saturday 9am - 3 pm on Sunday Please plan to visit the exhibit while you are at the Roundup - and plan to spend some time helping out if you can. While several steering committee members are committed to staying the entire time, we need volunteers to help staff the exhibit. Any length of time you can commit to the being present at the exhibit to hand out literature, answer questions and listen to comments is most welcome. Please contact me if you have questions or want to volunteer. PS: We'll have a few passes available for those who get in early and commit to spending a block of time.
