Background in community planning, work in energy assistance, garden for fun & sanity, worried about Oil Peak, need kindred spirits for moral support, live in S. Austin, own car but ride bus to work, 47 yrs old, native Texan.
How and when did you learn about the oil peak?
c. 2003, "dieoff.org" (very scary). Sought other info sources, read: Paul Roberts - "End of Oil"; read Kunstler's "Long Emergency"; Lester Brown's "Plan B 2.0"
Do you have a particular area of interest regarding the oil issue?
Renewable fuels, restructuring cities & economies for future energy situation, food security by supporting local agriculture, advocate for electric trains
How can our group be of greatest help to you?
Brainstorming, providing alternative opinions and data sources, networking with concerned fellow travellers.

Difficult subjects deserve a public forum in which a variety of people can air their opinions. Intelligent, thoughtful, optimistic people make all the difference in identifying problems and proposing solutions that will make our community a better, more sustainable place. I find Crude Awakening a very earnest and diverse group that discusses one of the defining topics of our era and what to do about it. Numerous knowledgeable members always have something thought provoking to say. We participate in Austin Energy Depletion Risk Task Force, to study the situation and make recommendations.
